What is "Close The Gap" Podcast?

- On “Close The Gap” podcast, I will speak with thought leaders about how to fix an urgent problem arising from the Covid crisis: "how to close the education gap that disproportionately impacts kids from minority groups and lower-income families."- “Close The Gap” podcast is a solo-project. It’s just me (with my Dad providing some technical support :-)- My first interview on “Close The Gap” podcast was with Robin Lake, Director at the Center on Reinventing Public Education. Robin joined me to discuss the state of public education as we move past the Pandemic. Please listen or watch on YouTube here.- It’s early (and exciting) days for me! I also have an introductory episode which covers: who I am, my interest in learning loss, and why I started "Close The Gap" podcast. Please listen or watch on YouTube here.

My Interest In Learning Loss

- My interest in the issue of learning loss started at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, in March 2020.- I was in Grade 11 at a school outside of Toronto. Along with millions of other students worldwide, I moved to online learning. My move to online was relatively easy. I knew, however, that others would not be so fortunate.- I wanted to help. So, I founded eLearn.fyi to help solve a critical challenge posed by Covid: how to bridge the learning quality gap between online learning and in-class instruction.

I Founded eLearn.fyi

- eLearn.fyi is a database of 300+ curated learning sites for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.- eLearn.fyi was featured in the New York Times, CBS “The Morning Show” did a 5-minute TV story that aired across the United States, and I was interviewed on TV shows across Canada and featured in major newspapers.- eLearn.fyi has reached more than 55,000 parents and students from more than 180 countries worldwide.

Why I Started “Close The Gap” Podcast

- As we move to a world where we learn to live with Covid, it’s clear that our kids have suffered real learning loss as we moved to online learning.- But the real gap - and what Covid-19 has amplified - is how that learning loss has disproportionately impacted kids from minority communities and lower income families.- The learning loss has been devastating. And this crisis is ongoing. Many schools are not back to normal. And the impact on our kids – all kids but especially those kids from minority communities and low income families - continues with no end in sight.- I’m only 19 yrs old. I don’t pretend to have the life experiences or the answers to solve these problems. But what I have is curiosity. And a passion for understanding more about the “why” and the “how”.- Why is this happening?- And how can we fix it?- To answer these questions, I want to speak with thought leaders from different spectrums in our society. I want to explore how we can “Close The Gap” on one of the most important issues of our time.
